Harmony Christian School began the Dr. Christine Long Memorial Scholarship award in 2012. Dr. Long not only had an obvious passion for teaching, but many qualities that she brought in and out of the classroom.
She truly was a Godly woman. God was first in her life, and she guided many to a continued relationship in Christ, or helped to mentor those searching for Christ. She did this throughout her lifetime, either in a classroom, while working with youth in church, on mission’s trips through Child Evangelism, or using her gifts in music, and writing.
She had a heart to give and serve. Even through death, she had thought of others and was an organ donor. The family received thank you cards and updates of the recipients.
She never stopped learning. Her degrees were an attribute to the thought that a teacher should never stop learning. She enjoyed teaching not just to the student who was a high academic, but also to the student who worked hard, may have struggled, but remained focused on accomplishing their best.
Along with the monetary scholarship given by donors, a plaque has also been incorporated with the scholarship, with each recipient’s name being listed. The family is presenting an engraved pen as a symbol of Dr. Long’s accomplished writing skills. She was a published devotional writer, and was working on several books. She was invited to speak at the Elementary Reading Celebration as their guest author, her final year at HCS.
The recipient of the Dr. Long Memorial scholarship will have the qualities of: Godly character, willingness to serve, and a desire to continue to learn.
